Hello, This is Director Lee Jong-joo.
The Lunar New Year is just around the corner! Have you been enjoying time with your family?
Since this holiday is quite long, I hope you take the opportunity to truly relax and recharge.
And of course, what’s a holiday without delicious food? Treat yourself to your favorite dishes and make a New Year’s wish!
But I’m not here just to send a New Year’s greeting—I also want to share the lingering emotions from the game’s story.
The final chapter of A Cagesong of the Ocean has finally been updated. Adventurers, the moment has come to save the world from the looming threat of the Dark Sun!
When I first watched the original ending of A Cagesong of the Ocean, I thought the Lost Melody the McVein Company had been searching for was the melody that would save the world. This was because the Water Melody was emphasized as a key objective throughout the game.
However, the more I replayed and carefully analyzed the story, the more I realized that the Water Lullaby was actually the crucial key to putting the Dark Sun to sleep. Of course, every melody played an important role in its own way, as Water Melody was essential for summoning Viola Rühm, the symbol of A Cagesong of the Ocean.
Did you know that the music in the ending scene was composed of three songs?
The first was Water Melody Obbligato, initially played by Duorl, followed by Aria, Forte, Una, and McVein.
The second was Water Melody Obbligato again, this time with Altos joining in.
The final piece was Water Lullaby, performed as a solo by Aria.
At first, the melodies sounded similar to me—I don’t have a keen musical ear to catch subtle differences—but as I listened more carefully, I realized how the music evolved and developed.
Long ago, Stigma composed Funeral March in Blue to control Viola Rühm, and Duorl later learned how to play it.
As soon as the McVein Company summoned Viola Rühm, Duorl activated the controller by playing Funeral March in Blue. After many twists and turns, they managed to defeat Stigma. Forte then played Water Lullaby, but since the controller had already been activated, it was ineffective.
In the end, they convinced Duorl and discovered that Water Melody Obbligato could deactivate the controller. Aria, McVein, Una, and Forte played it together, but its power wasn’t strong enough.
At that moment, Altos, another heir, appeared from somewhere, playing a violin tune. His performance strengthened the melody, filling in the missing power, and the controller was finally deactivated. With the controller disabled, Aria played Water Lullaby—a melody that conveyed love and peace.
In the end, they successfully saved the three continents by channeling Viola Rühm’s amplified power to completely put the Dark Sun to sleep.
Based on the information Michel obtained from Shulf, it was revealed that Altos was another heir. Trusting his foresight and instincts once again, Michel asked Ramon to find and bring Altos—just in case.
I had hoped Michel would take part in the final battle himself, but he was always in the role of supporting others.
Perhaps his true purpose had always been to discover and guide new heroes, just as he had in the past.
Michel’s final line has been slightly modified from the original. You can find it in the story releasing on February 6th—I hope you enjoy it!
If you’d like a small hint, be sure to checkout the Dev Note before the launch.
I intended to keep this New Year’s message short, but once I started talking about the story, I just couldn’t stop! It ended up being longer than I expected. I’m addicted to discussing the story—I could talk about it all night long. That’s why I cherish the moments when our team gathers to discuss and design new stories within the Gagharv universe, expanding on what wasn’t covered in the original.
I hope you look forward to new original stories, which will be released in succession.
Once again, I hope you enjoy this holiday with your loved ones.
Happy Lunar New Year! I’ll be back with the next Director’s Note soon.
Thank you.
